Why is this newsletter called Island Video Village?
Let's start with what a video village is. On a set, video village is where video monitors are set up to view live takes and video playback. There you’ll likely find the director, showrunner, producers, writers, and script supervisor, plus have visits by cast and crew. In my experience, video village is where great minds gather and it has the best seat in the house; sometimes the only seat in the house (set). I want this newsletter to be the call sheet (alternative title?) for the screen community (or village) here on the islands.
For those familiar with sets, you might be thinking that sometimes that space doesn’t include everyone. I hear you, but not this video village! This one is for anyone and everyone who wants inside the tent and respects the ethos of the space.
So, welcome to this ISLAND VIDEO VILLAGE!
* Catering and crafty are really where everyone gathers on a set, but neither of those have the word village in them.
My intent is to provide an encouraging and safe space for EVERYONE. Those who are part of and/or allied with the BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and PWD communities are welcome. Perfection is not expected, but respect and an openness to learn is.
For those seeking safety and accessibility, if you have concerns or want to make me aware of how to make the community and its events more accessible, PLEASE REACH OUT.
